Isstia works by a very simple (but firmly adhered to) social structure which is found below:
- Imperial Family: There is one Imperial Family, the head of which rules over the entirety of Isstia. The ruler can be male or female, and the crown is passed down to the closest biological decedent (within the age of accountability). The throne is not inherited through marriage. This means that should the emperor or empress pass, the thrown will pass on to their eldest heir. Their consort will then step down, but remain part of the royal family until their passing.
- Minor Royal Families: There are seven minor royal families. These families are decedents of the heads of the seven clans. Like the Imperial Crown, the ruler can be be male or female. Unlike the Imperial Crown, the role of ruler /can/ be inherited through marriage. This means should the King or Queen pass, their spouse will have the option of taking the crown. If the spouse posses, the crown will go to the eldest heir in line for the throne. In the case that there is no heir, the holder of the Crown will be determined by Royal Vote (between the Imperial Family and Minor Crowns).
- High Families: High Families are the three most influential and wealthy families within a Kingdom, beneath the royal line. Their lineage has nothing to do with royal blood, but these are often the families from which wives and husbands are selected when it comes to royal arrangements.
- Common Families: Common families are the most populated social tier, and make up the bulk of Isstia. Common does not imply anything to a families wealth, but instead merely describes their place in the social hierarchy. Being Common can make political and social climbing more difficult, but many have worked hard and risen in the social and political world. Most trade people are of the Common Class.
- High Families: High Families are the three most influential and wealthy families within a Kingdom, beneath the royal line. Their lineage has nothing to do with royal blood, but these are often the families from which wives and husbands are selected when it comes to royal arrangements.
