Sometimes, despite all our best efforts, problems arise. Our goal here at CoI is to create a safe, welcoming environment for people to collectively play in the world we have created. Unfortunately sometimes tempers flare, rules are broken, opinions bubble to the surface and sour attitudes threaten the enjoyment of those around them. In this case, we have the following procedure in place.

Please remember that the Head Wizards and staff involved in rulings will always make every effort to be fair, just and mature in any decisions concerning player complaints. In the case of a player complaint lodged against a staffer or wizard, tat staffer/wizard will be left out of the conversation concerning the method of discipline.

Warning & Probation

For first warning or minor infractions staff will do their best to deal with things through a page or @mail outlining what was done wrong, which rules were broken, and that the behavior should stop immediately. Staff will never handle disciplinary warnings publicly, as we do not feel public humiliation is an appropriate or professional problem solving method. Players will receive only one warning before the problem is escalated.

In cases where the player doesn't seem to 'get it', probation may be set. Probation times can stretch from 1 week to 1 month. Players who continue to cause problems while on probation and do not change their destructive behaviors will be asked to leave the game.

Temporary Leaves of Absence

When a warning or probation doesn't do the trick, problem causing players may find themselves asked to take a temporary leave of absence from the game. In this case, their characters will be frozen from RP, and the player will be asked not to log in for a set period of time. This is to give the player time to reflect on their behavior and evaluate weather CoI is the game for them. During TLAs staff will freeze all of the players characters as well as their playerbit. Once the time has passed, players may return to the game and pick up their RP under the agreement that the behavior will not happen again. The length of TLAs will be between 1 week to 1 month.

A ban is when someone is asked to leave and not come back. Chances have been given, discussions made, probably one or more time-outs, but things are simply not panning out. This doesn’t necessarily mean that either ‘side’ of the decision are evil, horrible monsters. But there is and should be some practicality in the decision that if it’s not working despite efforts otherwise, someone needs to leave to end the toxicity and damage.

Game Ban

Sometimes people refuse want to follow the rules, in these cases the only action left is that of a game banning.

In the case of a banning, all characters will be updated and returned to the roster and playerbits will be nuked. Life will then move on.
